    How placement works

How the Camp Leaders placement process works, from Ready to Hire status to receiving your camp match.

    Last updated March 25, 2026

What does Ready to Hire mean?

Ready to Hire means your application is complete and your profile is now visible to camp directors across the US. This is when the hiring process begins.

How do camps find my profile?

Camp directors search for staff based on the skills, experience, and availability listed in your profile. They can browse profiles, filter by specific skills, and view your video introduction. The more complete and detailed your profile is, the more likely you are to appear in their searches.

    What are the placement statuses?

Once you are Ready to Hire, you will see a status on your profile that updates as you move through the hiring process:

    • Visible means camp directors can see your profile. You can still edit and add to it

    • On Review means a camp is interested in your profile and may contact you for an interview. While you are On Review, only that camp can view your profile. You can message them from your homepage to introduce yourself

    • Confirmed means you have got your camp and we are finalizing a few details

    • Placed means everything is confirmed and you are officially set for camp

    What are hiring fairs?

Hiring fairs are events where you can meet Camp Directors face to face and interview for roles at their camps. At hiring fairs, you decide which camps to request interviews with. It is a great way to get a feel for different camps, ask questions, and make a personal impression.

Outside of hiring fairs, camps may also put you On Review if they are interested in hiring you based on your profile. Either way, you will always have the chance to chat with a Camp Director and ask questions before deciding whether to accept an offer.

How long does placement usually take?

Most participants find their camp match within about 30 days of reaching Ready to Hire. For some it happens more quickly, and for others it takes a bit longer. Camp directors review applications at different times throughout the hiring season, so do not worry if you have not heard anything right away.

Do you guarantee I will be placed?

Yes. Camp Leaders guarantees that every participant will receive at least 1 camp offer. The team works throughout the hiring season to match everyone with the right camp.

What can I do to speed up the process?

There are several things you can do while you wait:

    • Make sure your profile is completely up to date with detailed skill descriptions

    • Add a video introduction if you have not already

    • Browse the camp section and express interest in camps that appeal to you

    • Request interviews with camps that have open slots

    • Respond quickly to any messages from camps

    • Keep your availability dates accurate

Do I have to upload an introduction video?

No, an introduction video is optional. However, it is strongly recommended. Camp directors rely on intro videos to get a sense of your personality and enthusiasm, and applicants with short intro videos are more likely to be noticed and offered placements. In some cases, camps may only review profiles that include an introduction video, so adding one can significantly increase your chances.

Record a short 60-second vertical video (like on TikTok or Instagram Reels) introducing yourself and explaining why camp is the right fit for you. Then upload it in the introduction video section of your profile. This is your chance to let your personality shine.

What if I was On Review but now I am not?

Do not worry. This is completely normal and happens to most participants. For practical advice on what to do when you are put On Review and what happens when a review expires, see the On review article.
